Falling for Painted Harvest

I know, I know… this event was yesterday!

So, why I am I posting it again?  Because you missed it!

Of course, not everyone missed it.. but I am pretty sure that YOU were not there.  And, I am here to tell you that you missed out on a lot of fun!  We always have fun at my events.  In fact, if you do not like to laugh, you might as well not even come!

#sorrynotsorry

Anyway…  what you missed out on was making the following cards.  But, so that you don’t get too sad… I have included a little tip with each one to help you recreate on your own!!

What a great lot of cards that were CASE’d from other people!  Like I always say.. I CASE the best of them!!!

So, let’s get up and personal with each one!

CASE’d from Colleen Magness

This card is your standard 5-1/4″ x 4-1/4 card base (in Pumpkin Pie)- with one exception… the card front is trimmed 1″.  That’s what gives is the unique look.  The Early Espresso panels are 5-1/4″ x 3″ and the Very Vanilla panels are 5″ x 2-3/4″.  The Painted Autumn paper is 5-1/4″ x 1-1/5″ and was adhered first.so the brown layer will lay over it.  The colors used on the flowers are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze and Early Espresso…from the bottom up!

CASE’d from LeeAnn Greff

I absolutely love this card and it may be my second favorite from the bunch.  Or simple yet so elegant at the same time.  So, it’s your basic 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ Early Espresso card base with a 5-1/4″ x 4″ Very Vanilla Layer.  The three panels are each 1-5/8″ x 3-7/8″ and are in Crumb Cake, Soft Sky, and So Saffron.  The inks used were Soft Suede and Crumb Cake.  The circle is 1-3/8″ punched from Soft Sky and the tag is 1″ x 2-1/4″ Very Vanilla.  I used the 3/8″ circle punch to nip the corners and sponged the edges (I used Crumb Cake, but it looks good with the Soft Suede too!).  And, I cheated a bit because I didn’t have the Jute Twine that is in the 2017 Holiday Catalog, I used some other brand that was hiding out in my craft room.

CASE’d from Shannon Jaramillo

Now, this is one that gave me a bit of trouble.  I absolutely love the card that Shannon made, but couldn’t quite figure out how she did it.  But, I think I did pretty good.  The 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card base is Marina Mist with a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ Whisper White layer.  The flowers are made using Soft Sky and Marina Mist with Sahara Sand in the middle and for the dots.  The leaves were stamped off using Pear Pizzazz.  The sentiment is in full strength Pear Pizzazz.  I used the retired Handheld Stapler to attach some burlap ribbon to the top.

CASE’d from Lisa Fast

I love the doilies and just don’t use them enough.  But, I am learning that they add a special touch that just says POW!  This color scheme is So Saffron, Wild Wasabi, and Sahara Sand.  The flowers are So Saffron, Crushed Curry, and Sahara Sand.  The leaves were stamped in Wild Wasabi on Wild Wasabi then punched using the Leaf Punch.  A little Crushed Curry Chevron ribbon nd there you have a great and simple card!  And, in my haste to prepare for the class, I had lost the original center circle which was sponged around the edges using Sahara Sand – so you may want to give that a try!

CASE’d from Karen Barber

This was another card I had trouble CASE-ing exactly.  I wasn’t sure what colors Karen had used because I wasn’t getting the same results.  But, here is what I used…  Just a plain Whisper White 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card base.  I stamped with using Sahara Sand (stamped off) on the Hardwood background stamp.  The flowers were created using Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry with an Early Espresso center.  The leaves are Garden Green.  For the layering, I used the 2-3/4″ Scallop Square form the Layering Square Framelits – in Early Espresso.  The Crushed Curry layer is using the 2-5/8″ Square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  And, the top layer is 2-3/8″ square cut on my trimmer from Whisper White.  I also couldn’t figure out how Karen had tied the Twine because it didn’t seem to have a layer on the card front.  Oh well, I simply tied a bow and SNAILed it the to the back of the layers!

CASE’d from Jo Anne Hewins

And, you guessed it.. this one is my favorite!  Blue is my favorite color and Blue and Yellow is my favorite color combination.  And, the Navy Gingham Ribbon…  Who doesn’t love that!  Here you have a Night of Navy 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card base with a 5-1/4″ x 4″ Marine Mist Layer and a 5″ x 3-3/4″ Whisper White layer.  The flowers are stamped in Marine Mist and Night of Navy with a Daffodil; Delight center.  The leaves are in Pear Pizzazz.  The other layers are largest ovals from the Layering Oval Framelits and the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  The sentiment was stamped in Memento.

So… aren’t you sad you didn’t get to come.  I will be hosting more classes like this soon.  Feel free to stop by one!

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!

Last-Minute Great Halloween Treat Ideas Blog Hop

Today, I am joining Janet Wakeland and her team in their monthly blog hop.  This month’s theme is Last Minute Holiday Ideas…  And, of course, that holiday is HALLOWEEN

Coming up with special treats for Halloween is always fun.  I don’t do Halloween like I would like too, but someday…  You know that proverbial someday that usually never comes.  Hopefully I get a redo why I get grandkids… Which with be a multitude of years from now.

Anywho…  Here are the projects I came up with for you!

Don’t you just love the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper.  They really thought out this one!  The DSP comes with that perfect moonlit scene just screaming for the Owl from the Spooky Cat stamp set.  And, of course he needs a witches hat from another one of the DSP patterns.  I layered to add interest then I put on the top of a black pizza box.  Unlike the box on my last post, this one I just colored with the black archival ink pad. The coverage was great, don’t you think!

What could you put into that box?   Hmmmm… I wonder!

Here are some treat tubes in a cute little holder.  I honestly forget whose blog I got the dimensions from…  But it is not my creation.  I did cut the top using the Detailed Gate Thinlits.  Spooky Cat stamps add the character necessary for the perfect treat.  And, I did cheat a little and used some.of the retired Stazon ink to put the little rats right on the tube (the one in the middle).  Add a little DSP and there ya go!

And, one more little treat for you!

Just a little Cat Box.  It’s perfect for holding little treats like Reese’s peanut butter cups! (Or these Palmer ones from the dollar store!).

Here is how the box opens…

And, some measurements!

Well, that’s all I have for you today…  How about hopping along to see what everyone else has created for your last minute Halloween treat ideas!

Until next time…keep it simple, stampers!

Stamper’s Dozen Blog Hop – Painted Autumn

Welcome to the October edition of the Stamper’s Dozen Blog Hop!  This month we were challenged to use the Painted Harvest Designer Series Paper as the focal point of each of our projects.  Seems like an easy task given how beautiful the paper is.  But, I’m one that usually uses my DSP in the background.

And, actually… If truth be told, my hoard of DSP usually sits uncut on my shelf.  I hate to use it all up!  It’s so pretty.  What if I run out and they don’t make anymore?  But, as Kylie would say… #loveitchopit

So, here goes…  These are my offerings for you today!

This one uses the acorn pattern from the set of papers.  I really think it’s my favorite of the bunch.  It pairs perfectly with the leaves and acorns from the Count My Blessings stamp set.  I colored them using the new Stampin’ Blends.

O M G… Those are the best markers  ever!!!  They haven’t set a release date for customers yet, but if you sign up to be a demonstrator, you can order them in your starter kit if you sign up before Oct. 15th.

This card uses a simple pattern from the papers.  Just added a bit of Garden Green ribbon.  The sentiment is from the Lemon Seat stamp set.

And this one uses another basic pattern.  Don’t you just love those little tile squares.  Perfect with the little Cajun Craze and Soft Sky balloons.

Oops… How did that happen.  Looks like I used more of that acorn paper.  Told you I love it.  And, I paired it again with the Count My Blessings stamp set.  I added a little copper embossing, copper washi tape and copper ribbon to add excitement.

And the very last project… It’s a pizza box that I colored with Peekaboo Peach using a sponge brayer.  I then used the peachy polka-dotted pattern and Cajun Craze to make a flower using the bow punch.  I adhered it to a belly band made from the opposite side of the sheet of DSP and some more Cajun Craze (which may just be my new favorite color!).  Added a little linen thread and voila!!! A pizza box perfect for some salted caramels I just got at the candy store!

Now… Hop along to Patty!!!

Or hop on back to Debbie

Until next time… keep it simple, stampers!

2nd Annual Pink Blog Hop

Welcome to this awesome blog hop with Stampin’ Up demonstrators from around the world.

As you probably already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month here in America.  I am not sure if it is celebrated around the world… and truthfully, I am not sure that celebrated is the right word there.  But anywho…

Travel through this little blog hop honoring those at every step of the breast cancer journey.  Take these card and project ideas and recreate them to share with  someone you love who has been affected by breast cancer.

Here are my cards.  I made 10 of each of these cards to sell at our local high school Pink-Out Football Game.  I gave $3 for each card sold to the local cancer fund. So, these cards are not of my own creation but were cased from many people.  Each was found on Pinterest… my brain for all things creative.

Each one of these cards uses the RIBBON OF COURAGE Stamp Set ( 143852/143855).  Many use the coordinating SUPPORT RIBBON FRAMELITS (143749).  Both of these items can be found in the Annual Catalog.

Well, hop along my little Stampin’ Bunnies!

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!

Pumpkin Spike Lattes, Anyone???

So, a few days ago, I welcomed fall with this cute little picture…

While, I have never owned a hedgehog, I think they are just the cutest little thing on earth.  I am sure if I asked my husband if I could get one, he would say, “Absolutely not!”  After all, he has vetoed just about every other animal request I have had…  no chickens, no goats, no cats, no llamas, no ostriches, no zebras, no alpacas…  No nothing fun!

In fact, the kids call him the “Fun Sponge” because he sucks the fun out of everything.  But, we all still love him because someone needs to be an adult in the family and we all know it ain’t me 🙂 LOL

So, with my welcome fall blog post, I said that I would make a card and post it on my Facebook.  Which, if you have not gone and liked my page – you will want too…  there is also something going on over there! Just click here to be taken to it!!!

But, in the meantime, here is the card that I had made to celebrate Pumpkin Spike Season!

I just love how those little hedgehogs appear out of no where when you chop the bottom off the Painted Harvest Flower.

And, that Designer Series Paper…  how can you not love that paper?  It’s even on sale right now!  It’s part of the Coffee Break paper.

So, what inventive stuff have you come up with lately???

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!

My New Love

Have you ever looked at a card and said to your self… “There is no way I can do that!”  Well, I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can!

I used to think that same thing about sponging.  Have you seen how many beautiful cards use sponging of some form.  So, I took a chance… watched a lot of tutorials and tried it.  And, you know… I love it!  So simple and easy!

In fact, I loved it so much, I decided to teach my first Tips, Tricks, and Techniques class on SPONGING!

All you need is a Stampin’ Sponge and an ink pad!  That’s it…

First start by cutting your sponge into 8 wedges… gently push the big end – the crust of the wedge – into the ink pad.  Rub on to your cardstock. You may want to start off the edge of the paper and swirl your way onto it.  I swirl at first – then I rub it in.  Start light because you can always go darker.  Keep sponging until you have the color you want.

Here are the cards we created at the class.

This card uses one color – Crumb Cake.  It also used a simple mask.

This card uses two colors and a simple mask.

This one uses three colors and two masks.  See, we gradually built up to this point.

And, the final card…

This one uses three simple masks and four colors.

What do you think?  Want to try your hand at it?

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!

🙂  Joanne

PS – next month’s techniques class is water coloring!

Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop – Wedding/Anniversary

Welcome to this installment of the monthly Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop. You are currently visiting Joanne Cantrell from the very bottom of Illinois , USA. I hope you are inspired by my Wedding and Anniversary cards that I have created just for your view and CASEing pleasure.

I will say up front, my go to wedding set is the Rose Wonder stamp set and the Rose Gard dies.  But, since I had lent that to a team member the other day, it wasn’t with me when I created my cards for this hop.

So, I did some quick thinking and a little scouring of Pinterest to come up with these two.

This first card uses the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Dies (140621) and the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack (144177) to create a woodgrain inlay.  I also placed a different pattern behine the inlay and used that same woodgrain to cut out the flowers.  The sentiment is from the Special Celebrations Stamp Set (143882/143885).

I think this would be perfect for the couple that is having a more rustic type wedding.  It’s not so far out of the norm but not your regular white and bright color combo.

This next card is also a little less traditional.

Can you not imagine the happy couple quietly celebrating their years together watching the sun go down over the water…

Here us used the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies (143751) to add the chairs and the branch.  They were placed against a sponged background.  The waves were added using the High Tide Stamp Set (143006).  The sentiment is from the Number of Years Stamp Set (140653).  I simply stamped it in VersaMark (102283) on a scrap of the Wood Textures DSP then embossed in white.  I used the 1/16″ Circle Punch (134363) to punch the holes for the Linen Thread (104199) to go through.

I hope the projects you’ve seen here on my blog today have inspired you & brightened your day. You are currently visiting Joanne Cantrell.  Please see the list below & hop through all of the people on the list to see all our projects. You don’t want to miss any!

You Just Never Know

It’s been said that the only things I don’t know are the things that I simply don’t know.  I admit that I know a lot… In fact, I can be a little of a “know-it-all” according my kids, my sister, and my husband. LOL  But, I truly love knowledge.  You are never too old to learn new things.

In fact, something that you may not know about me is that I started college in the Spring of 2008 when I was 36 years old.  I graduated Summa cum Laude from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science in Education.  I majored in both Special Education and Elementary Education with endorsements in Middle School Math, Social Science, and English/Language Arts.  So, as you see, I am always up for a challenge and willing to learn anything.

So, that being said… I shared that just to get tot his point..

You never know… where I will end up.

Yesterday, for example, I could be found at our local Curves.  Curves is a place for women to go and workout by completing a circuit of machines and cardio stations.  It’s a great place to meet new friends.

I was invited by the owner to come down and set up a little something to give the members a chance to see what I do.

So, that is exactly what I did.  Now, this is not my typical craft fair set up.  I just took one 6′ table.  I set my samples and flyers on one side and left the other side for a cute little make-and-take.  I also borrowed a table to set my box of cards for sale on.

I was happy for the opportunity to chat with the ladies before, during, and after their workout.  I saw a lot of people I hadn’t seen in a bit and met some new faces.  I love that our Curves reaches out to help their members grow their home-based business.

The card was very simple.  I needed something that they could make in mere minutes as many of the women just pop in to workout between other tasks.

Just a couple of products out of the new catalog stamped and layered on Whisper White Notecards.

And.. just a heads up about those notecards… They will be on sale Oct 1-15th for 15% OFF.

So, it’s that great!  There will be more stuff to go along with those notecards… I will announce those items later.

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!

It’s Fall Y’all

Welcome to Fall…

That magical time of the year when pumpkins are on every corner, you can wear leggings and yoga pants without anyone judging, and the days of sitting and crafting for hours on end because it’s rainy and you just don’t care have arrived!

Well, that being said… I am looking forward to creating some new fall projects this year.  Of course, I haven’t started them, So I am going to throw it back to a couple weeks ago.

Remember this card…

Those cute little hedgehogs are going to be given a new purpose today.  And, all because I just found the cutest little meme on the internet.  What fun it is to spend all day on a computer and not look at memes at least once when you should be working?

So, I think we have all the tools we need to make this meme into a card – don’t you?

I really want to see what you can come up with.  I will post mine on my Facebook page TOMORROW morning.  You will want to be sure to go like my page today so it will show up in your newsfeed tomorrow.  And then, go check it out tomorrow and post your pictures of your creations with this meme!

Until then… keep it simple, Stampers!

🙂  Joanne

One Night in Bethlehem…

…the start was humble.

This is a lines from a parody of the 1980’s classic “One Night in Bangkok.”  It was remade to tell the story of Christmas.  And, there is so much truth to this line.  Our Lord Jesus left the Glory of His Father to be born of a woman in a meek and lowly manger to save the people of the world from an eternity in hell.

So, that being said, Stampin’ Up has provided the world with another gorgeous set celebrating that humble beginning!

The Night of Bethlehem Bundle (146043/146044) features the Night in Bethlehem Stamp Set (144809/145282) and the Bethlehem Edgelit Dies (144676).  With this bundle, you can make some of the most beautiful Christmas cards that not only send greetings, but celebrate the arrival of a King!

This clean and simple slider card allows Joseph to led Mary to the stable where Christ will be born.

Layering the village pieces can provide shadowing for a great visual effect.

Then, there is a little sponging.  I sponged the background then added the village and the star cut from the new Champagne Foil Sheets (144748).

That’s really all I have for you today.  Short and to the point… much like me!

Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time… keep it simple, Stampers!
